Things to do in Dubbo
ARTLANDS 2016: 27 – 30 October
This national biennial conference is the largest arts gathering in Australia. ARTLANDS is four jam-packed days of activity, conversation, discussion, debate and inspiration from across Australia and overseas. As well as sharing the BOOMDubbo story with delegates at the conference, we’ll be showing off our works through access to our self-guided art walk (the BOOMDubbo Street Art Stroll) and a guided walk for conference visitors.
We’re also proud to give a plug to the Inside Out Arts Trail at Apollo Estate. This project breaks through a prejudiced perception of people based on their locality and reveals how the affected persons perceive themselves, using these descriptions to make signs that together form an art trail.
If you’re looking for more things to do in Dubbo, there are no shortage of cultural experiences – including finding more art at the award-winning Western Plains Cultural Centre, seeing the talent of regional and visiting artists on display at the culturally-significant, Fire Station Arts Centre (Orana Arts), learning a thing or two about other bits of our shady history at Old Dubbo Gaol, dropping into see a performance at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre, or if original, live music is your thing – check out when the next Lust4Live night is on in town.
There are also brochures and guides to Dubbo and the region at the Dubbo Visitor Information Centre, where you can also start your art walk and use the WiFi hotspots there and near the Church Street Rotunda.
If you’re looking for a guided tour or just want to explore beyond the city limits of Dubbo, check out Dubbo Town and Country Tours. Don’t forget to explore our beautiful Macquarie River while you’re here and Adventure Water Sports can sort you out with options for doing just that (you’ll find them on weekends set up on Ollie Robbins Oval, directly opposite our Wall of Sporting Greats).
Where to eat & drink
Our cafe culture means you’ll never go hungry or thirsty. When you’re feeling peckish or in need of a cool drink or caffeine as you explore the art around our CBD, try these following spots (don’t forget to let them know you found out about them because of BOOMDubbo!).
- The Fast Lane Drive Thru Coffee (next to Kate Leigh & Colleen’s Thorn Bird)
- Two Doors Restaurant and Sticks and Stones Woodfired Pizza (next door to Ben Hall and Breaker Morant)
- Milestone Hotel Dubbo (next door to The Fast Lane & next to 199 Macquarie Street)
- CSC and Mr Beans Coffee Emporium (just up the street for our Wall of Sporting Greats & a short walk to/from Sir Sidney Kidman & Sir Henry – who are also next door to the Commercial Hotel Dubbo)
